How to use a Bleed Control Kit
We recommend people that people attend training before using a Bleed Control Kit.
Basic Instructions Guide found inside a Kit:
Tourniquet
- Apply to the skin
- 5 cm/ 2-3 inches above the wound
- Can be applied to both upper/ lower arm and upper/ lower leg
- Do not apply over a joint (elbow/knee)
- Tighten until bleeding has stopped
- Do not remove once applied
Haemostatic Gauze
- Locate source of bleeding
- Fill all of the wound cavity
- Apply pressure until the Ambulance arrives OR Secure with Trauma Dressing if available
- Do not wound pack the head, chest or abdomen
Chest Seal
- Apply to bare skin
- Wipe away blood to ensure adhesion
- Do not apply to embedded objects
Trauma Dressing
- Use for moderate bleeding
- Use to secure Haemostatic Gauze
- Apply anywhere on the body
